The college was founded by Shri. R. Shankar, the third Chief Minister of Kerala, a towering figure in Kerala Politics and a great social reformer. He was an able administrator and an ideal teacher, advocate, social worker and journalist, who used to take decisions impartially without fear or favour.

He served the SNDP Yogam as its General Secretary and President in earlier days. Under his leadership the SNDP Yogam gave emphasis to the field of education and started many educational institutions. With great foresight he called upon the Sree Naraneeyars to contribute “one fist rice” towards the establishment of the SN Trust. This sparked a flood of contributions from them enabling the formation of the SN Trust, which surged forward with the establishment of several Sree Narayana educational institutions all over the State. He served as the Chief of the SN Trust.
