The department has been conducting seminars and workshops on a regular basis during the last few years. The Faculty regularly participate in seminars/workshops and present research papers and publish them in research Journals including the one published by the college.
There is an ongoing UGC Minor Research Project on ‘Fuzzy Compactification’ for two years with a fund allocation of Rs.80,000/- in which Prof. K. Rajan is the Principal Investigator.
The seminars organized by the department include Regional Seminars on various topics such as Real Analysis (15-7-2004), Graph Theory (26-11-2004) and Group Dynamics (11-01-2005).
The department hosted a Multidisciplinary Seminar from the 24th to the 28th of January 2011.
A UGC sponsored National Seminar on ‘Discrete Mathematics and Graph Theory’ was organized from the 7th to 8th of July 2005.
Another UGC sponsored National Seminar on ‘Automata and Fuzzy Theory’ was organized from the 23rd to the 24th of September 2009.
Continuous assessments of students are being done based on attendance, marks scored in seminars and assignments, performance in test papers etc. Apart from the mid-term and model examinations monthly and class test papers are regularly given.
Preetha S secured First Rank in BSc Mathematics in 1995, Bittu L Lambi got Third Rank in MSc Mathematics in 2000 and Vandana S Dharan secured the First Rank in MSc Mathematics in 2009. In addition several students have qualified the UGC NET.
Prof. K Rajan is a Member of the Board of Studies in Mathematics in the University of Kerala.
Prof. K. Sujathakumari was a State Committee Member in Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad, State Level Key Resource Person in Peoples Plan Campaigning Programme, Integrated Rural Technology Centre and Technical Support Group in Education State Planning board, Thiruvananthapuram, Team Leader in various Projects Undertaken by I R T C Palakkad and attended the World Health Assembly at Dhaka, Bangladesh.
